On June 21, 2023, pema received an unexpected invitation to a short-term meeting with Dürr's Purchasing and Technology Managers.. The urgency of the request, which came just five minutes before the scheduled deadline, already indicated exceptional circumstances.
During the meeting, it quickly became clear that Dürr was facing a critical situation. A major contract for an important project in the automotive industry threatened to fail. The originally intended supplier had signaled at short notice that it would not be able to deliver the required quantity of assemblies on time. This not only posed a logistical challenge, but also jeopardized Dürr's contractual obligations, as there was a risk of contractual penalties if the deadlines were not met.
Despite vague information about the exact scope and without prior material testing, pema decided to accept the project after intensive internal consultations. This bold decision was made the next day after a hastily convened meeting with production planning, purchasing, work preparation and management. The determination to help the customer in this emergency situation was reflected in the quick response: As expected, the first orders arrived the following day.
The planning and production of cable assemblies for this major order required considerable effort on pema's part, as some of the materials used were particular materials that had to be procured specially. In addition, there were technical challenges that required a precise and flexible way of working.
The close cooperation between pema and Dürr was key to the project's success. Daily, intensive contact between purchasing, production planning and work preparation made it possible to master the numerous challenges of material procurement and production. pema showed particular flexibility here by processing orders in advance via e-mail so as not to waste valuable time.
Weekly meetings between the two companies ensured transparency and enabled quick, effective problem solutions. This close coordination was particularly important, as official orders often only arrived days later due to technical conditions.
On October 18, 2023, just 119 days after the initial request, pema delivered the last assemblies. Within this short period, a total of 1969 assembled pieces were produced and delivered on time. This achievement is all the more remarkable when you consider that such projects usually have a standard delivery time of 6-8 weeks after the order is placed. The use of special materials and the complex requirements required exceptional planning and coordination.
Through close cooperation, strong team spirit, profound professional skills and a partnership with the customer, a seemingly impossible task was completed successfully. It underlines pema's ability to deliver high-quality solutions even under extreme time pressure and to prove itself as a reliable partner in critical situations.
A very good example of how two companies can work hand in hand and achieve the goal with flying colors despite enormous time pressure.
